When you pass your hand or debris within ten inches or a 130° angle from the infrared sensor, the lid will automatically open. It will remain open if debris or your hand remains within the range of the infrared sensor. The lid will automatically close three seconds after your hand moves away from it. The power can last up to 6 months in normal daily usage. It also includes a ring liner to keep the trash bag from public view for a neat and clean appearance. Please note: The older version of this model accepted 4 D batteries, but it has since been discontinued. This model now requires 3 C batteries to perform (batteries not included).
